OTIS PRESCRIPTION

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You will need your prescription and PD (pupillary distance) measurement. Any optician can provide you with these and you are under no obligation to purchase your glasses from your optician. We will need to know if you are after distance or readers (single vision lenses) or if you need them for both and have multifocal lenses (progressive lenses).

We require all prescriptions to be within the last 12 months. We suggest customers upload their scripts to ensure all prescription information is delivered accurately to our lab.

To obtain an eye prescription, schedule a comprehensive eye exam with a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist. Following the refraction test, the doctor is legally required to hand you a physical or digital copy of your prescription at no extra charge. If you already had an exam, simply call your eye doctor's office to request a copy.

You are not under any obligation to purchase your glasses from your optician - so do not feel pressured into doing so!

For OTIS prescription, prior to ordering, we suggest customers check with their individual insurance company to see if their plan offers out-of-network reimbursement. If it does, you will be able to submit your receipt/invoice directly to your insurance company for reimbursement.

OTIS prescription orders are not billed directly to vision insurance and must be handled by the customer directly with their vision insurance provider to determine possible out-of-network benefits.

Progressive lenses are Multifocal lenses with different sections of vision correction. With a seamless transition in the lens from distance on top, to reading correction at the bottom, they can provide much sharper overall vision.

Blue light glasses filter the blue light emissions from digital devices, artificial light from screens and lights and are used to minimise the impact on your circadian rhythm, which is particularly important for those who spend a lot of time using digital screens or in LED lit rooms. Blue light lenses can help mitigate the impact of blue light by limiting how much reaches the eyes, supporting the natural release of melatonin. Blue light lenses may contribute to improved hormone regulation and alertness.

Transition lenses are photochromic that darken outdoors in seconds, and indoors they return to clear faster than ever. They block 100% of UVA and UVB ray and filter up to 26% of blue-violet light indoors and up to 86% of blue-violet light outdoors. They are lenses you can wear all the time in all conditions.

Please note that prescription orders may take 1-3 weeks to process due to the manufacturing time required by our lab. Each pair of glasses is custom-made to ensure the highest quality and accuracy for your prescription. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to provide you with the best possible product. If you have any questions or need updates on the status of your order, feel free to reach out to us! This timeframe excludes weekends, public holidays, and peak seasonal closures, which did apply over the Christmas and New Year period.

As prescription lenses are considered a medical item they can’t be returned unless there is a manufacturing issue. OTIS Lifetime Warranty on manufacturing defects of the frame still apply. However if you have a problem please email tlccs@mbwswim.com with your order number and we will happily look after you to make sure you are happy with the outcome.

We will connect you directly with our trusted lab, so you can speak with a licensed optician to ensure your prescription eyewear is fixed.

We offer a 24-hour cancellation policy from the time of your order. This allows our team to catch the cancellation before the lens is made by our lab.

We offer two different types of lenses within our prescription program:

Everyday Clarity: these lenses are made from CR39 lenses. CR39 is a standard, lightweight plastic material widely used for eyeglasses. It offers exceptional optical clarity with very low color distortion. Our Everyday Clarity lenses are available with OTIS Premium AR Coatings (anti-reflective, hydrophobic, oleophobic) and Blue Light.

Active Protection: these lenses are made with PC (polycarbonate), which provides exceptional impact resistance, built-in UV protection and a thinner, lighter profile. PC blocks 100% of UV rays inherently without extra coatings. Our Active Protection lenses are available with OTIS Premium AR Coatings (anti-reflective, hydrophobic, oleophobic) and Blue Light.

Remember, lenses can never be scratch proof hence is not covered under warranty. However, the scratch-resistant coating does reduce the risk of the lenses getting scratched through daily wear and tear.

Yes, you can get your favourite OTIS frames in either single vision (near or distance), or a progressive lens if you need a combination of both. Just make sure your prescription is up to date and we’ll do the rest.

Prescription lenses are made through a process called "surfacing," which typically results in lenses that are much thicker than non-prescription (plano) lenses. While plano glass lenses can be thin and lightweight, prescription glass lenses are generally much heavier, making them less desirable for everyday wear.

Additionally, customer demand for glass prescription lenses is very low due to their weight, higher cost to produce, and the availability of better alternatives.

Instead, we use premium materials that offer excellent optical clarity, high scratch resistance, and lightweight comfort, providing the best balance of performance and practicality for prescription eyewear.

The need to order thin lenses depends on your prescription and the frame you choose. We recommend thin lenses if your spherical power is ± 2.5 or above.
